England, South East

You may recognize these cliffs from song or legend.
The white cliffs of Dover.

They're made of chalk. Dover, being only 22 miles across the English Channel from France, has always been the first line of defense for Great Britain, from the Middle Ages, through the Napoleonic Wars through World War II. Defense tunnels were cut into the cliffs hundreds of years ago. During World War II, they were extended and became a secret wartime complex beneath Dover Castle. Above, an entrance to a tunnel.
They are startling. Above, low tide. (If you click, I kept the pictures large for you this time!) This is the castle of Dover, important, too as a defense for hundreds of years.
Oops. And again.
In the meantime, Kieron decides he's going to go for it.
He attempts to cross the English Channel in a single bound.

After Canterbury, we swung round, crossed via the channel-tunnel and picked Kieron up in Calais, France. Not!

Kieron has probably grown 3 inches this fall.

Thanks for the compliments. And we'll see you all on the 13th!
