Cathedral and Basilica

This is the view from the top of Notre Dame. That is one famous chimera gazing out over the rooftops.
A view from the street.
and looking up.
This is Sacre Coeur, atop Montmartre. It was my very favorite church. Actually we saw it first by day, below, and then by night.
For some reason I walked around that church and thought about my mother. It reminded me of her. Go figure. I lit a candle in her memory. All those beautiful medieval Catholic cathedrals-- and then the Romano-Byzantine-styled Sacre Coeur, built in the 1800's, reminded me of her the most. No pics allowed inside--this was the one church that really felt like church--they worked hard to keep the crazy tourists quiet and respectful.

I'm hoping it's January 6--I get in on the 4th, late.
